Course Goals

This course will equip principals, instructional coaches and other evaluators with the skills to conduct meaningful classroom observations and provide impactful feedback to teachers. Participants will learn best practices for observation, data collection, analysis and feedback.

    • Aligning observations to teaching standards/frameworks

    • Developing clear expectations and success criteria

  2. Observation Skills

    • Objectivity vs subjectivity in data collection

    • Different observation techniques and stages

    • Capturing both qualitative and quantitative evidence

    • Identifying both strengths and areas for growth

  3. Feedback Strategies

    • Timing, format and mode of delivery for feedback

    • Using specific, descriptive evidence from observations

    • Focusing on actionable, constructive advice for improvement

    • Setting SMART goals and next steps

    • Facilitating self-reflection and teacher ownership

  4. Challenging Conversations & Supporting Growth

    • Asking open-ended questions to engage the teacher

    • Using technology in collecting data and providing feedback

    • Connecting teachers to resources and professional learning

    • Maintaining ongoing dialogue and collaboration


Course Duration and delivery

  • 14 hours (Live Sessions)

  • 3 hours of practical assignments and final project

  • 7 days/2 hours per day

  • Online/Face to face
